Slideshare annually publishes a report known as SlideShare Zeitgeist that analyses the presentation trends of the past year based on the presentations their users upload. And it is a fascinating read.
The latest Zeitgeist shows that the average number of slides per presentation is 22. Twenty Two! Yes, that’s a large number, but consider this: the largest presentation of 2011 had 2811 slides in it!
Also another fact we noticed was that the presentation format most used remained MS PowerPoint (both .ppt and .pptx) at 81 % of the presentations (on Slideshare). And if you want to know the real effects of visuals and images in presentations – note this. Popular presentations contained an average 37 images per presentation! The Zeitgeist 2011 has also included an incredibly useful section in their presentation: The “secret ingredients of the most popular presentations”.
