A while ago Harvard Business Review published an interesting article – Four Presentation Tips from Obama’s U.N. Speech written by Nick Morgan. President Obama is a great speaker and business men, consultants and executives can learn a lot about speaking and presentations from him.
The author discusses 4 main takeaways from the President’s 2009 speech and he has discussed it in great detail. Two of the points from the discussion are:
1. There is power in telling the truth – when you are giving your presentation, be honest and be upfront. Don’t try to hide facts or hide behind half-truths. Your audience will appreciate your honesty.
2. Simplicity – Don’t make your presentation too complex. Try to simplify the complex topics from your presentation. Your audience may not be able to easily grasp complex topics and will lose interest fast.
