Thought PowerPoint can be used only for business presentations? Think again!
Sight gags, punchlines, handy visual props – comedians are using PowerPoint presentations to enhance their stand-up routines. The man who set the whole trend of using screens to underscore a comic routine is comedian Dave Gorman (of Googlewhack fame).
In his routine Dave Gorman the comedian uses PowerPoint to illustrate anecdotes, dissect absurd marketing strategies for deodorant and advertisements for watches. He also uses the power of PowerPoint to skewer the (very) human fallibility of racial stereotyping.
As Gorman explains in the interview below, PowerPoint users who’ve watched his show think that he’s not really using the presentation software:
Dave Gorman has managed to do visual effects with his PPT presentation that the ordinary business consultant hasn’t quite thought of. So consultants should probably take a tip from the comedian and use innovative ways to illustrate their speaking points during a presentation.
It’s not just Gorman who’s used PowerPoint as an effective visual prop for his comedy. Don McMillan has created a comic routine titled Life after Death by PowerPoint, inspired by the popular Death by PowerPoint scenario.
