The power to animate no longer rests with the demi-gods of technology. Microsoft PowerPoint has features that can help anyone effortlessly create animated cartoons in PPT slides within a couple of hours. The animated cartoons can then be viewed as a motion film using the Slide Show option and shared across the internet in video format. Interesting, right?
To begin with, you can either draw your own cartoon using the Auto Shape and Custom Shape features in PowerPoint or download ready-made editable cartoons from a reliable online source. The latter is easier because drawing cartoon figures is a lot of hard work, unless you have the patience and the time to spare.
Once you have drawn or downloaded your preferred cartoon, you can create the illusion of movement with the Custom Animation feature available on all versions of PowerPoint. The newer ones, such as PowerPoint 2010 boast of interesting animation effects grouped under several categories such as Entrance, Emphasis, Exit and Motion Paths.
Use any of the many Entrance effects to make objects enter the screen with a specific motion. The Emphasis effect is useful for animating objects on the spot while the Exit effect helps you decide how an object should move out of the screen. Motion Path allows you to move objects across any path specified by you. You can control the delay, speed and repetitions in the movement using the variables ‘On click’, ‘With previous’ and ‘After previous’. Once done, the animated effect will look as professional as those done using Flash or other animation software.
